India Competition and Regulation Report, 2006 - In partnership with Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) we are doing a consumer impact assesment study of the competition regime in India. This study will fit into the biennial India Competition and Regulation Report, which is a project supported by the Department for International Development, Government of UK. The Report is a response to a need to assess perception of stakeholders on the competition and regulation scenario prevailing in India, which has been following a policy of market-oriented economic reforms for the past one and a half decade.Southern Initiatives is carrying out a consumer impact assessment of competition regime (comprising of competition policy & law; government policy measures; and sectoral regulation) prevailing in India. This assessment is being done within the framework of eight consumer rights (as identified in the UN Guidelines for consumer protection) i.e. Right to basic needs; Right to safety; Right to choice; Right to redress; Right to information; Right to consumer education; Right to representation; and Right to healthy environment. The study also incorporates a focus on the competition regime in the Telecom sector and the impact on consumers.
